Because our cities are full of exiles with a lost, homeless look in their eyes, desperate for some peace,
because Circus, that art of extreme obstinacy, needs to continue its forays into new artistic territories,
because gathering author, composer, director, acrobats, singers and musicians together enables us to dare to move forward,
We have chosen to write the Daral Shaga utopia all together.
Feria Musica, Laurent Gaudé, Kris Defoort, Fabrice Murgia, and Vocaal Lab draw their inspiration from the shreds of life still left in Melilla, Tijuana and Lampedusa, conjuring in their collective imaginations the figure of a god of immigrants, and attempting to glimpse the possibility of gently crossing a frontier.
Nadra and her father are leaving their land to escape their meaningless life.
What does not fit in our bags,
Take a long, last look at it
What does not fit in our pockets…
Take it with you in your thoughts
The emigrant returns. Nowhere is his home.
The chorus starts to question him, flinging itself forward to face the railings.
Where are you going?
Where I left a piece of myself
Leads us to this point:
Which let no one through without first making them bleed
Daral Shaga will come alive through the eyes of the exiled and their impossible journey.
The old man who never dies
